In a really short sentence for a really huge piece of news:
Bandai-Namco, the parent company of Bandai Entertainment and Bandai Visual USA, has decided to liquidate Bandai Visual USA and merge the entity with Bandai Entertainment. The final results of this are not yet known.
Meanwhile, Bandai Entertainment has announced the licenses to Sword of the Stranger and the Tamagotchi Movie at Fanime and A-Kon 2008 respectively.
Editorial note: The initial "What the... This is the announcement?? Are you serious Bandai?!?!" shock on the internet from the Tamagotchi Movie was epic hilarity.
Yet again, Media Blasters purposely announced Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan on the AnimeonDVD forums as well as number of minor pieces of industry and company related news.
Toei animation is trying to get into the R1 market again with an On Demand Download-To-Own service. A quick check of the source code of that page reveals they have the rights and/or plans to make the following series available:
Fist of the North Star
Digimon Adventure 02
Galaxy Express 999
Beside Galaxy Express 999 and Pretty Cure, all of the titles on this list were previously licensed in one form or another. Note: 4kids never had actually licensed Pretty Cure.
Kadokawa Pictures USA has sent a cease and desist letter to Animesuki for the following titles:
Canvas 2 ~Niji Iro no Sketch~
Wagaya no Oinari-sama
Spice and Wolf
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!
H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~
Following the same policy as with all other cease&desist letters to other sites and fansubbers, the above titles have been marked as licensed and will no longer be listed.
Note: These titles are not actually licensed in R1 yet.
FUNimation has announced the license to Ookiku Furikabutte (aka Big Windup!).

From New York Comic-con and a few other pieces of news in future updates of this post:
Bandai Entertainment has announced the licenses to Gundam 00 and Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann.
Viz announced the license to the TV series of Hunter x Hunter.
(The idea for the title of this post came from Funimation's presentation at NYCC, not The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.)
In other random news, 4kids has licensed Yu-gi-oh 5D's.
In a piece of good news, Media Blasters has announced the license to the former Geneon title Seirei no Moribito. This is the first series that is officially "rescued" after Geneon stopped producing DVDs. Note: Geneon still retains the licenses to all of their properties and has still been working on production of these series.
And finally, some site news. As some may have noticed, we are listing subtitles for both The Tower of Druaga and Blassreiter. Going along with Gonzo's experiment, we are experimenting with ways to list these types on the site. These titles are available for streaming on Youtube (Druaga and Blasseiter), Bittorrent.com, and BostTV.com. For those who don't know, you can add &fmt=18 at the end of youtube links for higher quality video and audio.
We are working on a way to improve our listings of these professional releases and differentiate them from our normal listings.
