:: Wolf's Rain ::Reviewed By: perosquared
I've only seen the first 5 episodes of this series so far, but "Wolf's Rain" is already shaping up to be one of the more memorable series I've found. The show itself has many similarities to "Cowboy Bebop" in terms of substance and style - from music by Yoko Kanno (including an end theme by Maaya Sakamoto and an English opening that I could swear is done by the man who sang "Call Me, Call Me" on the Bebop OST). This show has created another futuristic world where things are the same but different - here, focusing not on space but cities on Earth.
Wolves are assumed to have disappeared 300 years ago, but in truth, they have learned to take on human disguise and walk among us. This show focuses on 4 particular wolves - the angsty but proud bishounen, the tough but sexy older man, the fun-loving but concerned normal guy, and the sweet but naive kid. (Their names escape me for the moment. :P)
Angsty!Bishounen is on a hunt for paradise, which legend says only wolves can find, and the other three end up joining him (not without alpha-male supremacy battles) on a journey after a genetically engineered girl who has been stolen from the lab where she was created by an Aristocrat, a mysterious stranger who can see through the wolves' disguises. Meanwhile, the main scientist's ex-husband has teamed up with a crusty old man dedicated to ridding the world of wolves, and he's just crazy enough to do it.
If it sounds a bit confusing, well, I've only seen 5 episodes. But "Wolf's Rain" shows great promise as one of the best new anime series available.
